Accessibility
Last updated:
Parenting a small child is hard enough without your tools getting in the way. We want Little Plate — the app and this website — to work for everyone, including people who use screen readers, magnification, voice control, switch access or larger text.
This website
We aim for WCAG 2.2 level AA. Concretely, this site:
- uses semantic HTML with proper landmarks, headings and labels, and includes a skip-to-content link;
- keeps text contrast at or above 4.5:1 — including on our brand orange, which we deliberately pair with dark text;
- is fully usable with a keyboard, with a clearly visible focus indicator that is never removed;
- respects your reduced-motion preference and contains no autoplaying media, flashing content or time limits;
- scales cleanly to 200% zoom and large text sizes, and works in portrait and landscape;
- works without JavaScript for all content, including this statement, the privacy policy and terms.
The app
In the Little Plate iOS app we support:
- VoiceOver — controls are labelled, and logging a meal end-to-end works by screen reader;
- Dynamic Type — layouts adapt to larger text sizes;
- large touch targets and an interface designed to be used one-handed, probably while holding a toddler;
- multiple ways to do everything — every AI feature (photo logging, nursery sheet reading) has a manual, typed alternative, so no capability is locked behind taking a photo.
Known limitations
- The app is currently light-mode only; system dark mode is not yet respected.
- AI-read nursery sheets and photo analyses always require visual confirmation of a summary screen — we're continuing to refine how that summary is announced to screen readers.
Tell us what's broken
If anything in Little Plate is hard or impossible for you to use, that's a bug — please email james@bodkin.studio with "Accessibility" in the subject line. Accessibility reports go to the top of the pile, and we'll reply within two working days.
